Title: A Gathering for Dionysus (21 Years and Counting)
Medium: Acrylic on Album Sleeve
Technique
My technique is pretty much all about layers.
The first layer is very physical.
Throwing down paint. Moving it around the canvas.
Creating an abstract layer of color and contrast.
The second layer is the mental layer.
It’s finding the faces, the strange creatures, the animals and all the funkiness that will make up that painting.
I pull them from the abstract layer with brushes and sometimes the air-brush.
Then its just layer after layer of texture, contrast, and detail to bring out these characters.
Then the title just comes to me.
Then it’s on to the next one. - Brett Hess

For 5 years, Digital Abstracts has been a design community that strives to deliver a unique blend of content, discussion and creative inspiration to its army of readers. It is this very loyal audience that is contributing towards the growth of DigitalAbstracts and paving the way to its bright digital future.
As with most design communities, the forum plays an integral part as the core of the whole project. However, DA offers so much more than just being a forum based around the design industry. Graphics tutorials, links to influential websites, and the sharing nature of the community as a whole are all helpful for “digital-newbies” in finding their feet. For the more experienced individual, DA offers interviews with the very best designers, daily design news and even job opportunities to sink their teeth into. This mix of features ensures that no one need be left out from the community. DA also carries a photography section in the hope that creative artists of all backgrounds may become inspired. DA merchandise is now also available from the shop.

The Mill worked hand in hand with brand & identity company Venture Three, who wanted to create five “feelings” which had their own character. Each one was based on an emotion: Intense, Euphoric, Alive, Hot, and Serene. We also wanted to reflect what HD delivers - mind blowing detail, depth of field and full-on vibrant colour.
