Michael Deas: Illustrations and Portraits
Michael J. Deas is one of the premier illustrators in the nation. His paintings include the Marilyn Monroe stamp, the Columbia Pictures Logo, the cover of Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice, a U.S. Army Recruiting Poster, the James Dean commemorative postage stamp, a recent Time Magazine cover, and more. He is the recipient of four Gold Medals from The Society of Illustrators and is considered one of the finest realist painters working today.
Michael has created sixteen commemorative postage stamps for the U.S. Postal Service, including three of the best-selling stamps in U.S. history: James Dean (1996), Marilyn Monroe (1995), and Audrey Hepburn (2003). Perhaps his best-known work is his luminous redesign of the Columbia Pictures logo, one of the most widely-seen images in cinematic history. His artwork has thrice appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, as well as dozens of book covers, including the 20th-anniversary edition of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
