“I love to make illustrations that look bold, fresh and shiny, with bright colours and flowing lines, elements of nature, strange combinations and symmetry.” - Teis Albers

Ben Frost is a painter, who currently livesand works in Sydney, Australia.
His work explores themes of alienation, dispossession, and perversity that exists behind the facade of contemporary western society. By subverting mainstream iconography from the advertising, entertainment and political spectrum he creates a visual and conceptual framework that is bold, confronting and often contraversial.

Zachariah Johnsen, is a young artist concentrating in watercolor, pen & ink,
and mixed media works on paper. His medium of choice is the micron pen and he uses them exhaustively to describe a world of ghouls, monsters, and misfits – the shady characters in everyday life, but just hidden from normal view. Zach focuses on the more ignored side of life – on the sides of people and places that visitors rarely see. In Zach’s world, most of the people have obvious human/animal hybrids that can’t be hidden. The corrupt politican is a hideous beast wielding an ax and smoking a cigar. The hollywood actress is a washed-up, half rat w/ open sores surrounded by a mob of rabid birds. The family portrait is a gaggle of jellydrop characters and mutated fish creatures.

Misk 1 recently updated his official site(http://misk1.com/) and blessed Curious Artist with the opportunity to ask him 5 Questions. Big Ups to Misk 1 for his CA support.
Amon: Can you share with us the story behind this piece?

Misk 1: Well to begin it was commissioned for a project that was called the World Book ABC capital of letters hosted in Antwerp, Belgium. I was given the letter “L” and was teamed up with a poet. Together we were connected to the word “LOVE”. Considering the way the world is today? Like the Beetles said “All we need is love”
The full mural itself took about 3 days including the LOVE sketch. I finished the LOVE piece in about a day.
You’d be surprised how those German’s (Belton) makes some sick paint. Just the piece itself 7 cans and I think on that portion of the walls I must of dusted 12 cans or less.
Amon: You’re walking down the street and you find a twenty dollar bill. What will most likely be the fate of this lucky find?
Misk 1: Oh man way back when I would’ve smoked or put it toward my Nike’s. Now a days I’ve been really into Karma, I’d pay it forward and give it to the first person asking for a donation. Not the local crack head, go get a job MF, but some cool kids raising money for their next team uniforms. I’m not rich and I struggle from time to time, but any chance to give back is really important to me.
Amon: When you begin a piece, do you see it in your head first or do just kind of go with it?
No, it’s always different than I visualize it. I always go into it thinking about some shape I want to work into it. But really my talent lies in knowing when to change it up and when to stop. Some people just don’t know when to stop and say finished. Sometimes it just flows out of my hand, kinda like my brain skips showing me and sends it directly to my hand.
Amon: Who was your favorite artist in Style Wars?
Misk 1: Dondi, between the sick color and block busters, what an inspiration.
Amon: Can you finish this statement:
One thing about Misk 1 is he’s always_______.
Misk 1: Rockin’ It Roc Rockin’ It!!!

The Burden of Civility
graphite on Arches paper
“For me, portraiture must involve a very direct line to the self-consciousness of the individual observed in addition to their physical being. As humans, we do not only exist in the physical world; there is also the realm of our thoughts, awareness of self, and our perception of reality. We are isolated as individuals, trapped within our own physical bodies and our private thoughts remain secret. To create intimate portraits that unveil this privacy is my favorite challenge.” - Sarah Petruziello
