Mear One has achieved legendary status among the urban/graffiti art circle on an international level. Born in a single parent home in 1971, as Kalen Ockerman in Santa Cruz, California, and educated on the streets of Los Angeles, Mear decided at an early age that he would pursue an artistic path. His mother an artist, would work with Mear drawing and painting on the floor of their apartment. Growing up on welfare made it hard to provide Mear with all the tools to create. His mother encouraged him to inter scholarship contest. This paid off in Mear’s interest. Not only did he get the art training, but also he learned to become competitive which prepared him for the graffiti world he would soon become part of. In spite of limited financial resources, his mother was able to sustain his interest in art by allowing Mear to explore his creative world. He learned to utilize his sharp eyes and able hands to depict and project his art in many different mediums.
